SÃO Paulo Metro has signed the service order for the purchase of 19 new Innovia 300 monorail trains for Line 15-Silver, which will be manufactured in China by the joint venture between Bombardier, now owned by Alstom, and CRRC.

The trains will gradually be delivered to the East Monorail Express Consortium (CEML), which is supplying the track and systems for the extension of the line from Jardim Colonial to Jacu Pêssego in the east and from Vila Prudente to Ipiranga in the west, where it will interchange with Line 10- Turquoise.

The new trains will expand the Line 15 fleet to 46 sets, increasing the frequency of services on the line and serving the extensions. The trains will be the same as the rest of the fleet, at 86m-long and 3.15m-wide. The seven-car sets will have air-conditioning, gangways between the cars, and CCTV. Each car will have four 1.6m-wide doors to accelerate boarding and alighting.

The trains are manufactured with a steel underframe and extruded aluminium walls and roofs, and are equipped with water-cooled permanent magnet electric motors, which are smaller, more powerful and energy efficient than conventional motors. Each car is equipped with four vertical load-bearing tyred wheels and six horizonal guide tyred wheels.

Line 15 is currently 14.6km long with 11 stations between Vila Prudente and Jardim Colonial.
