SBB orders Stadler EMUs for Berne - La Chaux-de-Fonds services

Each four-car set will seat 154 passengers in second class and more than 27 passengers in first, with power sockets at each seat.

The new Line IR 66 service will provide Neuchâtel with direct links to the SBB inter-city network from December 2020.

The direct-award contract includes an option for seven additional trains.

BLS had sought to run Line IR 66 as part of its submission to the Swiss Federal Office of Transport (BAV) for the operation of long-distance services in 2019-2029. However, in June BAV announced that it would award SBB a concession to operate almost all inter-city services in Switzerland, with only the Bern - Biel and Bern - Burgdorf - Olten services going to BLS.
