The objective is to extend the life of the 15-year-old fleet by another 20 years by replacing the vehicle’s electrical equipment and HVAC systems.

The trams were built by the former DWA Bautzen between 2001 and 2003 and are fitted with Kiepe Electric electrical equipment.

Kiepe Electric will be responsible for replacing some of the vehicle control systems, as well as the traction inverter and the on-board power converter. The company will also replace the existing heating and ventilation equipment with its latest HVAC systems.

The work is expected to be completed by 2023.
