Škoda Transtech has already produced 26 restaurant cars for VR.

Part of the restaurant section on the lower level features kitchens, a counter and a dining room.

A café at one end offers an open space and can also be used for cultural programmes, while the other end features a kiosk which also services the upper level. The upper level can also be used as a conference room for up to 41 people.

The coaches are pressure tight and feature thermal insulation which allow operation in temperatures of -35OC. The gangways are also sealed, allowing easy movement between cars.

The aluminium construction is designed according to current safety standards with deformation zones which, in the event of an accident, absorb the impact of the collision.

“Customers value our restaurant services and their popularity grew by 20% over the past few years,” says VR first senior vice president, Mr Maisa Romanainen. “At the same time, we continue to increase the capacity of our cars, including restaurants. Since 2015, we have invested €235m in vehicle refurbishment.”
