The new 30.6m-long ‘ForCity Smart’ vehicles will have capacity for up to 180 passengers and will be equipped with four doors on each side. All eight axles on each LRV’s four bogies will be powered, providing a power rating of 800kW.

The vehicles will be equipped with regenerative braking and passengers will benefit from air-conditioning and Wi-Fi.

The new LRVs will be delivered between June 2022 and August 2023, and will replace all 24 older Duewag R1.1 trams dating from 1994, which SWB intends to offer for sale.

As part of the contract, Škoda will build a spare parts warehouse at the SWB depot in Bonn Beuel.
