SOUTH Caucasus Railway (SCR), a Russian Railways (RZD) subsidiary which has a 30-year concession to operate the railway in Armenia, has signed contracts with Transmashholding (TMH) for the supply of 27 passenger coaches and two two-car EP2D dc EMUs as part of its rolling stock renewal programme.
The coaches will be delivered in May and June, with the two EP2D trains following in August.
The coaches comprise six type 61-4516 saloon coaches, and a fleet of 21 type 61-4517 sleeping cars equipped with two and four-person compartments. Both coach types will be produced by the Tver Carriage Works (TVZ) and will be used by SCR to operate overnight services between Armenia and Georgia.
The sleeping cars are equipped with toilets and showers and service areas equipped with coffee machines and vending machines. In addition, the compartments in the type 61-4517 coaches have folding tables and individual safes. All seats are fitted with conventional and USB power sockets. TV sets will also be installed in the two-person compartments.
The EP2D EMUs will be used by SCR to operate services on the Yerevan - Gyumri route, and will be manufactured at TMH’s Demikhovsky machine-building plant (DMZ). The trains will join two EMUs of the same type previously purchased by SCR in 2018.
The trains will be equipped with eco-friendly toilets, bicycle storage facilities and air-conditioning units equipped with air disinfection modules.
