The trains were built by Stadler in 2004 and the modernisation project is intended to ensure the fleet remains in operation until 2037.

The trains operate under 600V dc power on the Zürich tram network and 1.2kV dc on FB infrastructure.

Voith will supply two traction converters based on its EmCon I1000-9AR design for each set. The contract is Voith’s first order from Stadler for traction converters

The modernisation programme will begin in September 2019 and is due to be completed by mid-2024.
