Stadler was awarded a $US 119m contract in June last year to construct the vehicles and design the EMF facility for Dart’s Cotton Belt Regional Rail Silver Line Project.

The contract includes two options to modify the vehicles to add luggage racks, bicycle stands, and wheel skirts.

The 42km double-track line from Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW Airport) to Shiloh Road in Plano will connect northern areas of Tarrant, Dallas, and Collin counties along inter-state highway 635, one of the most congested road corridors in Texas.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held along the Cotton Belt Regional Rail corridor north of Dallas on September 19 2019 to mark the official start of construction on the line. Half-hourly services will operate during the peak and hourly off-peak when the line opens in 2022.
