BLS’s order, scheduled for delivery between 2021 and 2026, comprises 30 regional express trains and 28 urban express S-Bahn trains. The first batch will initially be used on the line between Bern, Neuchatel and La Chaux-de-Fonds from 2021.

The 105m-long, six-car EMUs feature step-free access, two toilets, one with disabled access, a self-service refreshment area, and electric power outlets in both first and second class segments.

The trains will be equipped with Stadler's Guardia ETCS Level 2 system - the first first major deployment of the system in Switzerland.

Guardia comprises both the hardware and software installed on the train, and shows the position, speed and other information that the driver needs, while also transmitting this data to the control centre.
