THE mayor of Toronto, Mr John Tory, announced on May 12, that $C 568m ($US 468m) of funding has been secured to procure 47 LRVs to enter service starting in 2023.

Under the funding deal, the City of Toronto will contribute $C 208m and the Canadian federal and Ontario provincial governments $C 360m.

In October 2020, the board of Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) approved the purchase of 13 LRVs from Bombardier Transportation (now Alstom) with an option for another 47 vehicles. The funding agreement paves the way for TTC to exercise its option with Alstom for the additional LRVs.

The LRVs are expected to be built at Alstom’s Thunder Bay plant.
