UKRAINIAN Railways (UZ) has completed negotiations for the purchase of 100 coaches from Kryukov Railway Car Building Works (KVBZ), with delivery beginning later this year.
UZ announced plans to purchase the vehicles in February, after the railway was allocated Hryvnia 4bn ($US 147m) in the national budget, including 3bn to renew the passenger fleet. UZ invited eight manufacturers to submit bids for the contract, but only KVBZ was able to meet the technical requirements and 12-month delivery time. UZ then entered a negotiation procedure under public procurement rules with the manufacturer.
“A meeting of the tender committee was held, and the intention to conclude a contract with KVBZ was announced, which successfully passed all qualification procedures,” says acting chairman of the board, Mr Ivan Yuryk. “Now the 10-day countdown has started, during which participants will have the opportunity to appeal, but we hope that there will be no such appeals, as all the rules of law have been complied with.”
The first coaches are due to be delivered within six months, with the remaining coaches delivered within a year, in time for the peak season in 2022.
UZ is undergoing a large fleet renewal programme, last month ordering up to 130 electric locomotives from Alstom under a €900m contract.
