Vlexx ordered 21 EMUs from Bombardier for the Elektro Netz Saar (ENS) network. The trains were given an authorisation to place in service by Germany’s Federal Railway Authority (EBA) in November 2019.

“Despite the coronavirus crisis, we can finally start passenger operation with our new trains,” says Vlexx managing director, Mr Frank Höhler. “The new trains are notable for their higher comfort and will improve our offer on the rails. More new sets will be taken into service this May.”

The Talent 3 EMUs will also be introduced on the RB 73 Saarbrücken - Neubrücke and RB 76 Saarbrücken - Neunkirchen - Homburg lines.

The trains have a maximum speed of 160km/h, with 160 seats, and comply with requirements for passenger with reduced mobility.

The fleet was ordered in 2017, and was due to be delivered in time for the 2020 timetable change. However, delivery delays meant the state of Saarland was forced to lease 12 four-car class 425 and eight two-car class 426 EMUs from DB Regio.
