When completed, the site will have a 9200m2 production space, a 5100m2 storage area and 5600m2 of office space.

Investor and project developer Panattoni Europe is building the facility, which will include a green roof on the administration building, and will use geothermal heating, intelligent light control and solar panels. It will also offer charging stations for electric cars and bikes.

The plant is part of the new 70-hectare centre of knowledge for industry and technology under development by Bochum Perspektive 2022.

“This new building represents a major investment in Wabtec’s capabilities and expertise to deliver green, business-critical products and services for our customers,” says Wabtec’s transit segment president, Ms Lilian Leroux. “It will be an environmentally-friendly facility focused on producing a variety of transit braking solutions, including segmented and conventional disc applications and brake control systems for customers around the world.”
