IRJ at Transport Logistic 2023: CFL Cargo has announced the launch of a new service carrying road vans between the port of Gliwice in Poland and Marckolsheim in France.

The new service is being operated in partnership with Bertani Trasporti, following the signing of an agreement between the two companies at the Transport Logistic trade fair in Munich this week.

The Gliwice - Marckolsheim service covers a distance of over 1300km, with two return trips operated every week. Trains of 19 wagons are hauled by DB Cargo Polksa in Poland, with CFL Cargo providing traction in Germany and France.

Moving the road vehicles by rail avoids the equivalent of 2300 truck movements and saves 10,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.

“We are pleased to work with Bertani Trasporti and are committed to provide them with sustainable solutions that ease the modal shift of their transport flows to rail,” says Mr Sven Löffler, chief commercial officer of CFL Cargo’s sister company, CFL Multimodal.

“This new connection between Gliwice and Marckolsheim is an extension of our network in Europe and will give us the opportunity to strengthen our service offering for eastern, central and western Europe.”

“We are constantly offering sustainable rail solutions as Bertani Automotive Rail aligned with market demands,” says Mr Frank Lehner, head of international business development and rail at Bertani Trasporti.

“Sustainability today increasingly takes a central role in reporting our medium to long-term performance and ability to create value.”
