SBB Cargo's operating partners for the services are SNCB Logistics and GB Railfreight, the British subsidiary of Eurotunnel's railfreight unit Europorte. The train carries up to 28 13.6m-long swapbodies and runs via the Channel Tunnel with departures from both terminals on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
"We are hopeful that the change of traction provider through France, Switzerland and Italy will increase on-time arrivals and customer satisfaction," says Mr Jan Skov, DFDS Logistics director for intermodal rail. "This will enable us to take the next step and increase the frequency to four trains per week during the latter part of 2014."
The expansion of the service is another boost for freight traffic through the Channel Tunnel, which increased by 10% last year. On January 13 DB Schenker launched a new freight service through the tunnel linking the Barking terminal in East London with Silla near Valencia in Spain.
