BELGIAN rail freight operator Lineas merged its subsidiaries in the Netherlands on June 1.

Independent Rail Partner, Independent Rail Management and Lineas Nederland have been combined as a single organisation named Lineas Nederland.

The strategy behind the merger is to concentrate competencies and resources in one single entity, to further grow business for Lineas in the Netherlands and the wider European freight market while offering more efficient and customer-oriented services.

Lineas says that current contracts have seamlessly transferred to the new merged business and that Lineas Nederland will continue to meet all obligations without change.

“This decision is strategic”, says Lineas executive chairman, Mr Bernard Gustin. “It allows us to strengthen our visibility in the Dutch market, where we intend to further expand. In this way, we bring more clarity for our current and future customers and employees.”

Independent Rail Partner and its owner, Independent Rail Management, were acquired by Lineas in 2021.

Lineas itself was originally formed through the privatisation of the freight operations of Belgian National Railways (SNCB).
