MRS Logistics has agreed to invest in the new Perus - Itaquaquecetuba ring line, which will divert freight trains away from lines currently shared with suburban trains operated by Paulista Metropolitan Trains Company (CPTM), as part of the early renewal of its rail freight concession.

Freitas said the signing will now allow the launch of a public consultation period to discuss the early renewal of the MRS concession agreement, which is expected to start within 45 days.

Doria said construction is expected to begin this year and take four years to complete.

With a cost of Reais 3.5bn ($US 960m), the northern section of the Ferroanel will provide a 53km ring line linking Perus station in São Paulo and Manoel Feio station in Itaquaquecetuba.
