The aim is to provide real-time, openly accessible information about individual trains, including location, departure time, destination, composition and punctuality.

The solution will allow the seamless tracking of commercial trains across European networks and beyond, in synergy with Telematics Applications for Freight services (TAF) compatible messages and existing online tools.

This will include a service to track commercial trains across Europe, including tailor-made access to data from TAF, operators, infrastructure managers, Rail Net Europe’s (RNE) Train Information System (TIS), terminals, port authorities and combined transport operators, adaptable to the needs of different users.

The winner will receive €400,000, with the runner up awarded €100,000.

The competition was launched on October 22, with submissions closing on September 21 2021. The winner will be announced in December 2021.
