IE has invested heavily in infrastructure condition-monitoring vehicles and equipment in recent years, and the new Ramsys software will enable the railway to collect, analyse and correlate condition data retrieved from its network, aiding short and long-term maintenance planning.

Mermec will manage integration of the platform with IE's existing IT systems which include a SAP asset management system, and a track recording vehicles measurement database.

"Today track maintenance is heavily based on subjective evaluations carried out by the regional infrastructure managers," says Mr Cathal Mangal technical manager for civil engineering. "The introduction of Ramsys will bring a more objective approach to track maintenance that will result in better quality and overall optimisation of resources."
