The funds are to be used to procure locomotives and repair tracks. A large proportion of the PR locomotive fleet is out of service due to lack of maintenance, although the National Logistics Cell has been awarded a contract to repair some of them. PR has also been steadily reducing the number of passenger trains it operates as it tries to grapple with its worsening financial situation.
