The agreement was signed by Mr Alexander Doll, member of the board of management for freight transport and logistics at DB, and Mr David Peradze, CEO of Georgian Railway.

“This strategic alliance is mutually beneficial and marks a cornerstone,” Doll says. “Maintaining close ties with Georgian Railway will help us to further grow our business as it puts us closer to the Asian market and opens up new perspectives for future endeavours.”

GR is very active in developing Europe-Asia corridors, says Peradze, and it was logical to partner with DB.
“Together with DB we are going to team up and foster international freight transport and offer competitive products,” he says. “This certainly will benefit us and increase competitiveness of Georgian logistics market.”

As part of the agreement, DB will be responsible for organising rail freight transport within the EU, with multimodal operations handled by its subsidiary DB Schenker.

GR will be responsible for transporting freight bound for the Middle East and India, coming from Constanta and passing through Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as for transport to East Asia via the Caspian Sea.

DB and GR say the newly-formed partnership will foster the mutual support between the companies in multiple ways, including the exchange of resources such as knowledge, expertise, information as well as employees.
