RB Rail, the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian joint venture responsible for implementing the Rail Baltica standard-gauge high-speed project, has awarded a €563,065 contract to Systra to develop design guidelines for the project.

RB Rail, which awarded the contract on the basis of the most economically advantageous offer, received three other bids from a French-Lithuanian group led by Egis Rail, and two German consultants: DB Engineering & Consulting, and Grauff Rail Engineering.

The guidelines will provide engineers with a standardised approach for designing the project which will be mandatory for the design, construction and operation of new 870km railway linking Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius and Poland. “The design guidelines will ensure railway interoperability and accelerate the railway design and construction process,” RB Rail says.
