Evag requires the first eight vehicles to be delivered and put into operation by the end of 2020, and the remaining six by March 15 2021. The 10 optional trams will be needed by the end of 2026.

Evag needs the new trams to cope with growing traffic and because the average life of its tram fleet is about 30 years, while its first low-floor vehicles are now more than 20 years old.

Each tram will be more than 40m long with a minimum capacity of 240 passengers. The vehicles will have two-plus-two seating and five wide doors for rapid boarding and alighting. They will be deployed on the main north-south line.

Closing date for bids is March 5.
