DPO awarded Stadler a Koruna 1.4bn ($US 62m) contract in January 2017 to supply 30 of the standard-gauge LRVs, which have been dubbed Nova, with an option for 10 additional vehicles, after it was selected as the preferred bidder in November 2016.

The first tram will run regular services on Line 4 from Martinov to Kunčic, with city councillor, Mr Lukáš Semerák, and DPO Chairman and general manager, Mr Daniel Moryse, attending the inaugural run.

Each unidirectional 24.9m-long LRV can accommodate up to 188 passengers, 61 of them seated. The trams are equipped with air-conditioning, wide doors and a wheelchair ramp, and have a top speed of 80km/h.

A week-long public vote was launched on the DPO website on May 23 2017 to select an exterior livery and name for the trams.
