The three-section Be 4/8 vehicles were built by Schindler, Switzerland, in 1978 and rendered redundant by the recent introduction of BLT’s new fleet of Stadler Tango low-floor LRVs.

After years of uncertainty, the future of the tram network in Gotha and the 21.7km inter-urban line to Tabarz was secured in October 2016, when the Thuringian state government rejected proposals to replace the system with buses.
