THE supervisory board of Stuttgart Tramways (SSB) agreed on September 26 to exercise an option worth around €80m for 20 additional Tango S-DT8.12 high-floor LRVs from Stadler Pankow.

SSB placed an initial order for 20 of the vehicles in January 2010, and subsequently exercised an option for a further 20 units in January 2014.

In addition, the supervisory board has approved the acquisition of three new trains for the rack-operated metre-gauge line from Marienplatz to Degerloch and the construction of a fourth depot for the urban rail network.

In July Stuttgart City Council agreed to provide €40m towards the extra Stadler LRVs, €7.5m towards the new rack vehicles, and €25m towards the depot.
