The Traxx MS3 multi-system electric locomotive is the latest in the Traxx family and has last-mile capability to enable operation for short distances over non-electrified tracks. Bombardier says the locomotive has been designed for condition-based maintenance and uses big data and the Internet of Things to correlate data provided from onboard systems and the infrastructure to monitor the locomotive’s health in real time.

“With its energy efficiency, proven ability to pull higher loads than comparable locomotives, customised configuration, simplified interface with the European Train Control System and improved maintainability, this locomotive addresses our customers’ need for improved profitability, increased flexibility as well as for more reliable performance and availability during its whole lifecycle,” says Mr Peter Amman, Bombardier’s head of global ecosystem freight corridors.
