CDG Express secures €1.7bn state loan Claude Shoshany

FRANCE’s finance minister Mr Bruno Le Maire confirmed to the National Assembly on November 21 that the state will provide a €1.7bn loan to ensure the CDG Express rail link to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport is completed in time for the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be hosted by the French capital.

According to a report in French newspaper Les Echos, the concession company of Caisse des Dépôts, Paris Airports, and SNCF Network will be able to access the first €295m tranche of the loan in 2019.

CDG Express services will operate at 15-minute intervals with a maximum journey time of 20 minutes between Paris Est and CDG Terminal 2. Trains will use the existing line between Paris Est and Villeparisis, before continuing northwards on a new 8km branch which will follow the alignment of TGV Interconnexion to the airport.

A one-way fare is expected to cost €24.
