The new trains are designated M7 and will enter service on the East and Ring lines replacing 25 BN-built S1 and S2 trains which were manufactured between 1990 and 1994, and four CAF-built M4 and 33 S3 sets, which were delivered between 1996 and 1998. The new trains wil enter service from summer 2021.
The options for additional vehicles are intended to support expansions in network capacity.
CAF’s selection as preferred supplier will be confirmed after the appeal period has expired, or, in the case of appeal, the appeal procedure has been completed with an irrevocable outcome.
