Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation appointed Collenette as its special advisor on high-speed rail in October 2015. His report subsequently concluded that there is a positive business case for Canada’s first high-speed line, which will combine upgrading of existing lines with dedicated new infrastructure designed for operation at up to 250km/h.
As chair of the planning board, Collenette will continue to provide strategic support and advise the government on the scheme.
Last year Ontario allocated $C 15m ($US 12m) to carry out a detailed environmental assessment for the project.
