UNION Pacific Railroad (UP) has launched construction of its new Brazos Yard in Texas, which will become one of the highest-capacity yards on the company’s 23-state network when it opens in 2020.

UP says the $US 550m classification yard at Mumford in Robertson County in eastern Texas represents the largest capital investment in a single facility in the company’s 155-year history.

The yard is located at the convergence of seven UP lines and will have capacity to handle up to 1300 wagons a day.
