NS New Generation Sprinter undergoes climatic tests in Vienna NS

CAF has delivered a Netherlands Railways (NS) New Generation Sprinter (SNG) EMU to the Rail Tec Arsenal facility in Vienna for testing in the company’s climatic chamber.

The train is being tested at temperatures ranging from -25 to +40oC to evaluate the performance of components including automatic couplings, doors, retractable steps, and toilets.

NS says the tests have been completed satisfactorily and CAF will make some minor modifications, such as altering the heating of headlight units, before the trains are delivered.

CAF is supplying 118 of the 1.5kV dc suburban trains, which are based on the supplier’s Civity platform, and the fleet will enter service from December 2018.
