Stadler was the only supplier in the final round of bidding, as Alstom did not submit a final offer and a bid from China was rejected because of quality concerns.

Alstom says its current product range is not suited to the requirements for narrow-gauge trains, while the small size of the order would have made customisation impracticable.

 

Stadler expects to complete a prototype by 2020 and four more trains will be manufactured by 2022.
