BELT Railway of Chicago (BRC) has signed a $US 22m contract with Wabtec for the design, installation, testing and commission of Positive Train Control (PTC), which will be completed in 2018.

Wabtec will provide BRC with its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System (I-ETMS) for five locomotives, a back-office server, office hosting, wayside and communications design, a track database, construction, training, and system integration. The system will cover 472 track-km.

BRC’s PTC system will be interoperable with PTC systems currently being operated by Chicago commuter rail operator Metra, Amtrak, and all Class 1 freight railways.
