The project will facilitate an increase in the maximum line speed from 120km/h currently to 160km/h as well as double capacity on the route. Thales says the project involves installing new electronic interlockings, and the solution, which will offer enhanced cybersecurity, will work alongside the line’s existing ATP system as well as a future ETCS system.

The project is entirely funded by the World Bank and is part of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport’s plan to upgrade the country’s rail infrastructure.
