Under Phase 2, Bangalore Metro’s north-south and east-west corridors will be extended to increase the reach of the metro and reduce road congestion.

The contract includes engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 750V dc third-rail electrification, as well as the construction of 30 33kV/415V auxiliary substations, 26 33kV/750V dc traction substations and a 33kV cable distribution network along the viaduct.

Alstom will integrate this new infrastructure with the existing system on the Phase 1 lines including augmentation of the supervisory control and data acquisition system (Scada). The project will be implemented over five phases with commissioning of the first 6.5km stretch expected by the end of 2019.

Alstom was awarded a €114m contract by BMRCL in 2009 for the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the train control and signalling and telecommunications systems on Phase 1, which opened in June 2017.
