The 10.2km north-south line from Bowen Hills to Dutton Park will include a 5.9km twin-bore tunnel beneath the Brisbane River and the city centre with four new underground stations. Existing stations will also be upgraded as part of the project.

Pulse, a Cimic Group-led consortium, including Pacific Partnerships, CPB Contractors, UGL, BAM, Ghella and DIF has been selected for the public-private partnership Tunnel, Stations and Development (TSD) contract.

The Rail, Integration and Systems (RIS) contract will go the Unity consortium, which comprises CPB Contractors, UGL Engineering, Jacobs Group Australia, and Aecom Australia.

Hitachi Rail STS will provide ETCS for the new line. The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is expected to finalise contracts with the three successful bidders in the middle of the year.

Preliminary works began on Cross River Rail in August 2017 and the project is due to be completed in 2024.
