According to a report in Granada Hoy, three daily Ave services are planned linking Granada with Madrid with a 3h 5min journey time. In addition, there will be a daily Ave service between Granada and Barcelona, bypassing Madrid, with a 6h 20min journey time.

The introduction of Avant regional high-speed services from Granada to Seville and Malaga is expected to start at the end of September.

Rail services from Antequera and Bobadilla to Granada were suspended in 2015 to facilitate construction of the new 300km/h line. The suspension was only expected to last a few months, but this turned into a four-year closure.

The line has seven tunnels, the longest being 3355m, and 31 viaducts, two of which are 3150m and 2525m long, and there are two new intermediate stations at Antequera AV and Loja. The line has three interlockings and is equipped with ERTMS with an ASFA back-up signalling system.

  • Broad-gauge services on the Algeciras - Bobadilla line, which closed in October 2018 for repairs, are resuming in stages. The Madrid - Algeciras Altaria service resumed on May 17, while the Granada - Algeciras Media Distancia service will restart on June 3. However, according to the European Rail Timetable, the Malaga - Ronda Media Distancia service will continue as a bus service for some time.
