Hector Rail acquires DB Schenker locomotives

SWEDISH open-access operator and traction provider Hector Rail has acquired 15 six-axle class 151 freight locomotives from DB Schenker with the aim of offering railfreight operators a cost-effective alternative to leasing new locomotives.

The 118-tonne 15kV 16.7Hz ac locomotives date from 1972-1978 and have a nominal output of 6.29MW and starting tractive effort of 329kN.

The locomotives will be delivered to Hector Rail by next year and 10 units will be overhauled while the remaining five will be used as spare parts donors.
