SPANISH high speed rail infrastructure manager Adif AV has put out to tender an €18.6m contract for signalling, including installation of the Asfa automatic train protection (ATP) system, for the 8.8km new standard-gauge line for high-speed trains currently under construction between Madrid’s Barajas airport and Madrid Chamartín station.

Adif AV previously awarded a joint venture of Lantania and ASCH Infraestructuras y Servicios a €21.3m contract to lay new 1435mm-gauge track for high-speed trains on the existing 1668mm-gauge route used by Renfe suburban services between the airport and a tunnel portal near the A1 motorway. The contract also includes a dedicated 3.5km 1435mm-gauge mainly double-track line between the tunnel and Chamartín station.

The link is being financed through the European Commission’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, part of the European Union’ NextGenerationEU plan.
