MEDWAY Belgium, a subsidiary of MSC which started operations in August 2022, has ordered 15 Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens Mobility to haul container trains in the Antwerp area and on cross-border services covering 12 countries.
The 6.4MW multi-system electric locomotives will have a maximum speed of 160km/h and will be equipped with ETCS in addition to national train control systems. The locomotives will haul freight trains from Belgium east to the Netherlands, Germany and Poland, and southeast to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Hungary.
This means the locomotives will be able to operate on networks electrified at 25kV ac, 15kV 16.7Hz ac, 3kV dc and 1.5kV dc.
The locomotives will be manufactured at Siemens Mobility factory in Munich-Allach, Germany.
