The consortium, which comprises Construcciones Urales, Gami Ingeniería e Instalaciones and Azvi, Spain, submitted the winning bid of Pesos 10,192.9bn ($US 438.4m).
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is providing technical assistance to Fonatur to promote best practice in contracting. The 16 bids for the tender were assessed independently by Fonatur and UNOPS and both agreed that the consortium presented the best price-quality ratio.
Section three will be 172km long and will run from Calkiní via Campeche to Izamal, on the Yucatán peninsula. Construction will start on May 25. Fonatur and UNOPS designed special anti-Covid-19 sanitary measures to safeguard the safety and health of all construction workers.
The contracts for sections one and two of the Mayan Train project have already been awarded. The section two contract was won by Operadora Cicsa and FCC Construcción with a bid worth Pesos 18,553.7bn.
The Mexican government is expected to award a contract directly to Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA) to build section four as the company is already working on a road project.
