The joint venture, called MELconnx, was identified as the preferred bidder for the contract in September.
The contract covers the construction of the line as well as five new stations at Morley, Noranda, Malaga, Whiteman Park and Ellenbrook.
The line will connect with the existing Midland Line at Bayswater, and run north in the median of the Tonkin Highway, through land north of Marshall Road, along the western side of Lord Street and finish in Ellenbrook town centre.
This is the largest of four contracts for the project. Preliminary work on the reconstruction of Bayswater Station is underway. Other contracts comprise the integration of the line into the Tonkin Highway, which is currently in the design and planning phase, and forward works.
When it opens in late 2024, the line will offer a 30-minute journey from Ellenbrook Station to the centre of Perth - halving current travel times.
The line will connect the northeastern suburbs with the passenger rail network in the city where the population is forecast to double by 2031 and is intended to reduce congestion in the area. The line will also provide improved connections to the airport and stations on the Midland Line.
The project has a total budget of $A 1.1bn and is jointly funded by the national and state governments.
