DB is now using the BIM method to plan all small and medium sized stations.

All project participants are able to receive an interactive 3D, 360o visualisation of planned buildings, and all builders, planners and managers can work on the same model. This means that the planning process is more clearly visualised and risks can be identified at an earlier stage.

By the end of 2017, planning will have begun on 53 stations in North-Rhine Westphalia using BIM. In December 2015, the German federal minister for transport and digital infrastructure published a digital planning and construction strategy, making BIM the standard in the transport infrastructure sector by 2020.

DB allocated €20m for the introduction of BIM in large-scale projects in October 2016.
