The contract includes the manufacture of the train, maintenance for five years, installation of dynamic detection equipment, and the supply of systems, subsystems and spare parts.

The train, which has been dubbed Dr Avril by Talgo, will have two power cars with an output of 8MW and six trailer cars.

The train will be dual gauge so that it can operate on 1435mm and 166mm-gauge lines and dual voltage to cope with lines electrified at 25kV ac and 3kV dc.

This is the fourth inspection train which Talgo has supplied to Adif. The other three comprise a series 330 standard-gauge 25kV ac train with a maximum speed of 363km/h and two series 355 dual-gauge diesel units with a maximum speed of 220km/h.
