DUTCH infrastructure manager ProRail is to replace audio-frequency track circuits with axle-counters on the 48km ETCS Level 1-equipped Rotterdam port line. GAST-NL equipment will replace the Alstom Jade system currently installed.

The line is a key part of the dedicated freight Betuwe line linking Rotterdam with the German border near Emmerich. Work has been split into four packages - two will start this year at Maasvlakte, Yangtzehaven Zuid, Botlek, Europoort and Pernis. The remaining two, covering Maasvlakte marshalling yard and Waalhaven, are due to start next year.

Work on the first two packages is due to complete in 2026 and also includes the replacement of 35km of cable and the modification of relay installations and pointwork. BAM and Dura Vermeer will work on the first two packages, with contracts for the remaining two still to be awarded.
