On July 31, Spanish infrastructure manager Adif awarded a consortium of Thales and CAF a safety equipment contract for the Nudo de La Encina - Xátiva - Valencia section of the Mediterranean Corridor.

The contract comprises project design and implementation of ERTMS levels 1 and 2, including the maintenance of the interlockings, train protection systems, centralised traffic control, auxiliary detection systems, power supply, telecommunications, and safety and protection facilities for both the conventional and high-speed lines.

The contract includes six months for project design and approval, followed by 30 months to implement the project. The contract also includes 25 years maintenance for the high-speed facilities and 20 years maintenance of the conventional network systems. CAF Signalling’s share of the project is worth €80m.

Slovenia

The Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure awarded a consortium of Iskra and CAF Signalling a contract to refurbish the signalling and safety systems between Zidani Most and Sentilj on the Slovenian border with Austria. The contract covers 117km and includes 17 stations.

The project, co-funded by the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programmes, includes the design, installation, testing and commissioning of the signalling equipment and systems, replacing the legacy Iskra relay interlockings with the CAF Signalling electronic interlocking.

Bulgaria

Bulgarian infrastructure manager National Railways Infrastructure Company (NRIC) awarded the ERTMS CA Voluyak DZZD consortium comprising Bulgarian company AER and CAF Signalling a contract to refurbish and modernise the signalling and telecommunications systems on the Sofia - Voluyak line, which includes Sofia Central, Obelya and Voluyak stations.

The project, also co-funded through the CEF, includes the design, installation, testing and commissioning of all signalling and telecommunications systems, including ETCS Level 1 and GSM-R, as well as the implementation of new electronic interlocking produced by CAF Signalling along a 12km stretch of line.
