A joint venture of China Railway Group, China Railway Number 3 Engineering, and China Railway Engineering Consulting Group have been announced as the only bidder to successfully qualify for a Pesos 141.79bn ($US 2.8bn) contract to design and build a 380km line in the Bicol region of the Philippines.

The contract is due to be awarded this month, with work to begin at the start of 2022.  The package includes the construction of 23 stations and a depot.

Transportation assistant secretary, Ms Goddes Hope Libiran, told Business World that China Road and Bridge Corporation and Power Construction Corporation were the unsuccessful bidders for the project.

The line will run from Banlic in Calamba, Laguna, to Daraga in Legazpi City, in Albay province, and forms part of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) South Long-Haul Project, a 560km line connecting Manila to provinces in Southern Luzon.
