The ceremony was attended by regional train operator Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV), Alstom and Infraserv Höchst, operator of Höchst Industrial Park.

The fuelling station will be constructed and operated by Infraserv Höchst, and is expected to begin operation from December 2022. Infraserv Höchst previously installed hydrogen filling stations for cars at the industrial park in 2006.

The fuelling station will serve a fleet of 27 Coradia iLint trains supplied by Alstom to RMV subsidiary operator Fahma under a €500m contract signed in 2019, which will replace Fahma’s current fleet of diesel locomotives. The contract also includes the supply of hydrogen and maintenance services for 25 years.

The trains will operate on the RB 11 Frankfurt - Höchst - Bad Soden, RB12 Frankfurt - Königstein, RB15 Frankfurt - Bad Homburg - Brandoberndorf and RB16 Friedrichsdorf - Friedberg lines.

The filling station in Hesse is the second to begin construction in Germany, following the start of works on another in Bremervörde, Lower Saxony in July.
