This follows a three-month overhaul of the train by Loram which was completed in December.

The New Measurement Train is a converted diesel High Speed Train (HST) which has been equipped with measurement systems, track scanners and high-resolution cameras to monitor track condition at speeds up to 200km/h.

The train covers 185,000km in a year and captures around 10TB of image data every 700km. The data is used by NR engineers to make repairs and plan maintenance.

The HST is the fastest train in NR’s infrastructure monitoring fleet, and identifies infrastructure faults before they become a safety issue or affect train performance.

The train will be maintained at Loram UK’s Derby facility, where NR’s other infrastructure monitoring trains are maintained.
